Harrisonburg (Va.) church members held their first community health expo last Sunday at the community center next door. Prior to the event, members went to homes in the area to distribute flyers and to personally invite the community. A shuttle was also provided for those interested in attending. As guests arrived to register, a healthy smoothie was offered to them. Nine stations were available, including tests for blood sugar, blood pressure, massage, counseling and upon completing all the stations, they had the opportunity to speak with a physician to review their health record.
“There was a steady flow of community members that were served and were very appreciative of this service,” said Janet Olsyne, member. “Our hope is that those who attended will realize the importance of their health and will spread the word to the community for the next expo we hold for them.”
