Church communication directors now have a resource guide to provide keys to ministry engagement. Communication Corner, a newly produced booklet created by Potomac’s communication department, holds answers to commonly asked questions and assists communication team members as they direct the flow of information that supports and promotes the mission of their local church.
The booklet, and other vital information for those just starting off as communication directors in local churches, was shared for the first time this winter during a seminar at EQUIP-HD, a training program facilitated by the pastoral ministries department. “As communicators, you are an important part of the ministry by providing consistent and creative messages and recording the history of your church,” said Debra Anderson, assistant to the president for communication, during the presentation. “Whether you’re part of your church’s communication team, you are the team or want to start one, this guide will help ensure you’re on the right track.”
The booklet is available at pcsda.org or can be mailed upon request. It provides a job description for church communicators, writing tips, methods to reach out to local media outlets, details of how to submit content and share stories in Leader2Leader, Potomac’s newsletter, Potomac People and pcsda.org as well as ways to streamline communication among church members. . “We look forward to presenting more training seminars and providing additional material in the future,” says Anderson. “We want to be a source of encouragement to those in communication positions and share ways to improve communication around the conference.”
