Weekend Schedule
MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT CHARLES A. TAPP
We are excited about seeing you this weekend for the educator’s retreat in Cambridge, Maryland. Unlike a conference filled with meetings and a regimented time schedule, this will be two days of downtime to reconnect with your family in a stress-free environment and renew connections with your colleagues. So, come prepared to relax your body, release your stress, and refresh your soul.
This will be a time to remember!

SPEAKERS & PROGRAM DIRECTORS
For nearly 42 years and in many scenarios, Tapp has served as a pastor, professor, administrator, writer, and radio/television host, sharing God’s love and saving grace with the world. His ministry is fueled by the message found in Zechariah 4:6: “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.” Prayer is at the center of his life and the way he leads the ministry of the Potomac Conference. An avid tennis and golf fan and a veracious reader, he also enjoys being a lifelong student. He and his wife, Maureen, a former nurse administrator, have three adult daughters and one grandson.
Sam Leonor is the Mission and Spiritual Care Executive for Adventist Health. He enjoys exploring the connection between spirituality and vocation through research, writing, and speaking to a wide range of audiences in church, business, and academic settings. For more than 20 years, Sam worked in higher education as a university chaplain and adjunct professor at La Sierra University. His connection with Adventist healthcare began in Central America, where his parents worked to develop the denomination’s health and educational missions in Nicaragua and Guatemala. Sam’s background includes time as a pastor and teacher in North Carolina and Tennessee. He has degrees from Southern Adventist University and Andrews University.
Dr. Leisa Morton-Standish is the Director of Elementary Education at the North American Division. She brings broad teaching experience to the position, which includes teaching in small rural schools as well as in large urban schools. She has taught on the east and west coasts of the U.S., both in and out of the Adventist education system and in Australia and New Zealand.
Leisa holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland, an MA in Education from California State University, and a Diploma in Education from Avondale College. Her research focuses on persuasive writing, classroom collaborative strategies, experiential learning, and problem-based education. Leisa and her husband, James, have three children.
Her first love is the classroom where she can share her passion for learning and her love for Jesus.
Pastor Jose A. Barrientos Jr., affectionately known as “Pastor B.” or “Josant”, is married to his sweetheart Claudya Barrientos, and both are blessed with 2 gorgeous little girls named Emma Giulianna & Abby Alessandra. Pastor “B” loves outdoor activities, technology, languages, and taking pictures. Josant holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Washington Adventist University and is completing another master’s degree from Andrews University. His passion is to help children & youth understand how wonderful it is to have a constant and relevant relationship with God. He is currently serving God as the Youth Ministries Department Director for the Potomac Conference.
Gerry Lopez understands the importance of a strong and visible children’s ministry in churches; he feels the future existence of the church depends on it. Gerry has enjoyed working in children’s ministry for more than 14 years as a youth pastor, children’s ministry pastor, and elementary school chaplain. Gerry loves teaching children about the love of Jesus and getting them to know Him as their personal savior.
Arely and Victor Kindo both graduated from Washington Adventist University. They met while studying there and got married in 2021. Arely studied Music Education, and Victor studied Theology at Washington Adventist University and Global Community Development at Southern Adventist University.
