Welcome to the Evangelism Department
Go Make Disciples!
Our Lord's command is to, "go make Disciples". You can't make a new disciple unless you first win them. When our members become involved in soul winning, not leaving it up to someone else, great things happen! We are looking at new, creative ways of reaching out into the community and becoming intentional about making those connections. New, innovative methods that connect this generation with the message God has given for the times in which we live. One of my objectives is to provide resources to Pastors and churches that will give many options and opportunities for everyone to see how and where they can fulfill God's call in their lives. Part of the challenge has been moving away from the old paradigm, the event or the meeting, to the process of leading up to the meeting, preparing for the harvest. In the past we have relied upon the brochure to garner in a crowd and we have had some success with that method but it's left out an important piece of the puzzle. There is little or no connection between those who come and the members. Some studies have shown the best retention rates are from those individuals who already have a relationship, connection, with someone in the congregation. One of my passions it to help churches develop a harvest mentality, what one might call a cycle of evangelism. Where members are experiencing the joy of soul winning and see the results lived out in the lives of those they have led to Jesus. To help our Potomac members experience this joy, I've set some ambitious goals that we will reach by the power and grace of God. Our goals for Evangelism are:
- Every church holding an evangelistic meeting will have a plan, which includes the necessary pre-work and follow-up.
- Every church will have at least one baptism beginning in 2009.
- To increase the number of Evangelistic meetings held each year by 10 percent.
- Host a field school of evangelism in conjunction with one of our colleges by 2010.
- To hold a multi-church, citywide series by 2010.
